Beth Stovell is currently Assistant Professor of Old Testament, Ambrose Seminary, Ambrose University, Calgary, AB, Canada, having previously served as Assistant Professor in Biblical Studies, St. Thomas University, Miami Gardens, Florida, U.S.A. She has a Ph.D in the field of Biblical Studies from McMaster Divinity College, Hamilton, ON, Canada, a M.C.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies (New Testament, Literature, and Spiritual Theology) from Regent College, Vancouver, a double B.A. in Classics and in English Literature and Language from the University of Texas (Austin). She has written Mapping Metaphorical Discourse in the Fourth Gospel: John’s Eternal King (Brill, 2012), a book on kingship metaphors in John’s Gospel based on her dissertation. She recently completed her first commentary, Minor Prophets I: Hosea-Micah, for Zondervan’s Story of God Bible Commentary series. She has also edited two publications. Notably for this course, one is entitled Making Sense of Motherhood: Biblical and Theological Perspectives. She has contributed chapters to numerous publications and articles to various journals. Beth is currently editing two books and writing a commentary entitled Minor Prophets II: Nahum-Malachi (Zondervan), a commentary on Ezekiel for the Baker Commentary on the Old Testament: Prophetic Books series (Baker), and a book on interpreting biblical language (InterVarsity Press). She has leadership roles in various academic societies, including the Society of Biblical Literature and the Institute for Biblical Research, and she is on the Steering Committee and Program Committee of the Society of Vineyard Scholars. With her husband Jon, she coordinates and oversees programs and initiatives related to theological and spiritual formation (Vineyard Formation) at the national level for Vineyard Canada. This includes seven different programs spacing across developmental ages from children to elderly and differing levels of spiritual and educational growth. She is a member of the worship and ministry teams in the North Calgary Vineyard.
